Tennessee Division of Mental Retardation Services
The Situation
The Tennessee Division of Mental Retardation Services (DMRS) is the state agency responsible for providing leadership in the development and maintenance of a system that offers a continuum of services and support for persons with intellectual disabilities.
DMRS provides services directly or through contracts with community providers in a variety of settings. These settings range from institutional care to individual supported living in the community.
CQL and the Tennessee DMRS formed a partnership over many years to promote a number of quality enhancement initiatives.
What CQL Did
CQL’s work in Tennessee focused on building the tools, skills and common grounding for a person-centered approach to quality. Some of our accomplishments include:
- Development of a quality enhancement protocol for community providers based on the Personal Outcome Measures^ SM ^
- Training and consultation, including an orientation to and coaching in the use of the Outcome Measures, introductory and assessment workshops, exercising rights and responsibilities, and leadership development
- Trainer certification of organization staff in Tennessee
