Accreditation in Early Intervention Services

New Mexico Developmental Disabilities Supports Division

The Situation

In the 1990s, the New Mexico Developmental Disabilities Supports Division organized a separate division to oversee early childhood intervention programs. In response, some organizations added services for families with young children to their service array, while other organizations developed that provide these services exclusively. The service system in New Mexico is culturally and geographically diverse.

Accreditation is a requirement for organizations that receive funding for early childhood intervention supports.

What CQL Did

CQL applied the Personal Outcome Measures SM for Families with Young Children extensively. In response to the state’s request, CQL developed the “New Mexico Edition of Personal Outcome Measures ^SM^” which cross referenced state standards with CQL’s Organizational Assurances.

In New Mexico, CQL has worked to apply the Personal Outcome Measures SM and accreditation processes in a way that is culturally sensitive and meets the needs of the organizations that have chosen to provide services to a specialized segment of the population.

CQL currently works with the following organizations using accreditation as a quality strategy:

  • A Better Way of Living, Inc.
  • Laguna Early Childhood Special Services
  • Opportunity Center
  • Pecos Valley Regional Center Cooperative #8
  • REC IX Developmental Services
  • Transitional Lifestyles Community, Inc
