University of Kansas, Beach Center on Disabilities
The Situation
The Beach Center is a permanent unit of The University of Kansas, a major international center for research and other scholarship, teaching and learning, and service to the citizens of Kansas, the United States of America, and people throughout the world.
The Beach Center on Disabilities established family quality of life as a key theme for its research activity. The Beach Center Leadership secured federal funding from the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research to design and implement family quality of life measures.
What CQL Did
CQL leadership participated in technical advisory committee meetings at the Beach Center and provided conceptual and technical information to senior researchers. CQL shared information from its Personal Outcome Measures®, the Importance/Satisfaction Map, and its specialized work for families and children – Outcome Measures for Early Childhood Intervention Services and Personal Outcome Measures for Children and Youth.
“In addition to focusing on the personal outcomes of individuals with disabilities, [CQL] also provided one of the few conceptualizations that includes family-oriented outcomes for the early intervention lifespan stage only.”
