The Situation
The International Association for the Scientific Study of Intellectual Disabilities (IASSID) is an international and interdisciplinary scientific non governmental organization with official relations with the World Health Organization. It promotes worldwide research and exchange of information on intellectual disabilities. The association was founded in 1964 and has sponsored eleven World Congresses. IASSID is the first and only world-wide group dedicated to the scientific study of intellectual disability.
The Quality of Life Special Interest and Research Group (SIRG) was established “to further work that enhances the quality of life for individuals with disabilities and their families.
The SIRG-Quality of Life’s goals are to:
- collaborate for change at the societal level
- conduct collaborative research
- participate in collaborative activities such as conferences and publications
What CQL Did
CQL’s President and CEO, James F. Gardner, Ph.D. is a member of the Quality of Life SIRG and has presented at a number of the organization’s World Congress meetings.
