The Situation
A crisis is looming in the field of developmental disabilities. More than half of the CEOs of not-for-profit organizations and an equal number of government senior managers are within five years of retirement. The University of Delaware Center for Disabilities Studies, ANCOR and CQL all recognized the responsibility to respond to the emerging nonprofit leadership crisis by partnering to combine their respective strengths to address the issue.
What CQL Did
CQL was one of the co-sponsors of the first Summer Leadership Institute at the University of Delaware Center for Disabilities Studies. CQL staff served as faculty for the inaugural program.
Fifteen emerging leaders from organizations supporting people with disabilities across the United States were selected to participate in the first Summer Institute.
What does the Institute look like?
This course is a week-long, intensive leadership development program for those identified by their organizations as emerging leaders. Each participant is assigned both a peer mentor and a faculty mentor for follow-up and consultation. Participants work in areas of management, program leadership or senior direct support positions in an organization providing, advocating for or funding community based services and supports for people with developmental disabilities, and/or their families and communities. The course emphasizes participant interaction.
