The Situation

The Division of Licensing Services’ Office of Long-Term Care Licensing licenses and inspects Arizona nursing homes facilities. Long-Term Care staff also perform Medicaid certification inspections for Arizona’s Intermediate Care Facilities for the Mentally Retarded (ICFs/MR). Licensing inspections, on-site surveys, and complaint investigations are conducted to promote quality care and safety and ensure that performance standards are met for facility operation and maintenance.

Faced with a backlog in the completion of the federally mandated surveys of the state’s ICFs/MR, the Division contracted with CQL to provide assistance.

What CQL Did

CQL’s federally trained survey teams were deployed across the state to conduct the overdue ICF/MR surveys. These surveys were completed in accordance with the requirements of CMS and the Arizona Administrative Code. With CQL’s support, all surveys were completed on time and required reports furnished to the appropriate state and federal agencies.
